Megson looking to build

Bolton boss Gary Megson is hoping to bolster his threadbare squad this summer with some much-needed new recruits. The Trotters coach currently works with one of the smallest playing staffs in the Premier League. That situation inevitably hinders his progress and curtails any ambitions he may have of turning Bolton into top-half challengers. They have managed to successful beat the drop again this season, though, and Megson hopes he will have a few more bodies on board by the time the 2009/10 campaign gets underway. He said: "Money is tight everywhere but we have got to kick on If we do not then we are going to have real problems next season. "We have made a profit in transfer business in the last two years and the wage bill is down as well. "We are pleased but that was not my brief. If you do not keep going forward you get problems. Targets "Look at Middlesbrough. They slashed the wage bill and players left. They have gone with youngsters and now have a huge task trying to avoid relegation. "A number of players have gone from here and because of our size not as many have been brought in. "We have a chance to redress that balance and it has got to happen. We have already identified targets we would like to bring in. "We want to improve and I would like to alter the style of play a little bit. But we will be taking baby steps on that score." Megson also believes that his side have made progress this season, having comfortably avoided being dragged into a basement battle. "There have been a lot of good things this season," he said. "We have scored more goals and let fewer in. There have been small improvements."
