Megson: I've aided Trotters progress

20 December 2009 11:30
Megson was taken to the Reebok Stadium in October 2007, with the club languishing at the foot of the top flight table.[LNB]A brief but dismal spell under the guidance of Sammy Lee had left the club in serious trouble and a lot of hard work was required in order to turn things around.[LNB]Megson proved to be up to the challenge, guiding the club to safety and helping to consolidate them in the Premier League.[LNB]Things have not gone entirely to plan this term, with only one win in their last seven outings leaving them perilously close to the drop zone.[LNB]However, Megson feels the squad he now has at his disposal is better than the one he inherited two years ago, while he also believes that improvements have been made off the field.[LNB]"When I took over the club had taken five points from 10 games. They had played a team of postmen and dockers in Macedonia in the Uefa Cup and got a draw there," he said.[LNB]"This club wasn't the one everyone was telling me about. It was averaging half a point every time it played.[LNB]"Thirty four players have left this club in two years and of those only two are playing Premier League football, so that shows the strength of the squad.[LNB]"The training ground needed sorting out. It was costing way, way too much to run. It has been pared down now and is much better.[LNB]"We are trying to temper the way we are playing over the past couple of years and alter that without throwing the baby out with the bath water. [LNB]"We have some players here who have been playing a certain way for a long time and we also have other players here who have been brought in to play differently.[LNB]"We are trying to change but we need to get results in the meantime."[LNB][LNB] Wigan v Bolton.
