Megson defends Bolton record

Gary Megson has defended his record at Bolton Wanderers insisting it is an achievement to still be in the Premier League. Megson guided the Trotters away from the drop zone after taking charge in October 2007, although he is yet to win over many of the club's fans. The former Leicester, Nottingham Forest and West Brom boss believes keeping Bolton in England's top-flight is an achievement not to be sniffed at. However, while he is pleased with his work at the Reebok Stadium he now wants to see the club maintain progression by improving tightening up on the pitch. He is unhappy a momentary lapse cost them two points against Spurs while he felt better finishing would have been enough to secure three points against Hull City. Achievement"We were down at the bottom of the league when I came," he told Sky Sports News. "We're still in the Premier League, which is the best league in the world. I think it's something we can all be pleased with. "In that process a lot of players have left. Probably less than half have come in and we've managed to keep ourselves in the Premiership for the last couple of years and make a total of around seven or eight million pounds. "The fact that the football club is in the Premiership is a big thing and what we've got to try and do now is instead of looking back in the past two years is try to take the club forward now. "The way we've played, at times we've been very good, but in view of saying the way that we've played we also defended poorly against Tottenham on one occasion from a corner that has cost us two points. "Our finishing at Hull was woeful. Out of 21 attempts we didn't score. That cost us three points. It just shows the vagaries of playing well but just making one or two mistakes at critical times can cost you."
