Jo repays David Moyes faith with double for Everton

As Jo was being held up as the ultimate example of what has gone wrong at Manchester City in the past six months, the Everton manager David Moyes must have had mixed feelings about the Brazilian. [LNB]Having checked on the forward over the past couple of seasons at CSKA Moscow, there was never any prospect of Moyes being able to come up with the £18 million that took the 21-year-old to Eastlands in a deal that was completed before Mark Hughes was appointed manager. [LNB]The forward scored just one Premier League goal in a miserable first-half of the season at Eastlands and his only headlines were generated by the fine he was given for going to a nightclub when he was recovering from illness. [LNB]But here he looked a different player to the forward who has never looked comfortable at Eastlands. Chances were missed but he looked a strong presence with his back to goal, bringing the likes of Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill into play, earned a penalty, scored a wonderful goal from the edge of the area and also added a spot-kick in added time at the end. [LNB]Without the injured Yakubu, Louis Saha and James Vaughan, Jo could be just what Everton need to continue their push for Europe through to May. [LNB]'I've not seen that form from him at Manchester City but I'm not surprised because I saw it at CSKA,' Moyes said. 'I didn't come close enough to signing him because the fee was too big. [LNB]'I thought he would be good for us because he's got things to offer and then when he went to Manchester City I thought I got a bit lucky not getting him. I need to regain his confidence and I didn't want to put him in so quickly but we just had no options.'[LNB]The hosts were growing frustrated before Jo went down under Andy O'Brien's challenge and Mikel Arteta buried his penalty just before half-time and three minutes after the restart, Jo came up with a goal of real quality. [LNB]As he waited for Phil Neville's up and under, he held off Gary Cahill's challenge and turned before firing low past Jussi Jaaskelainen. In stoppage time, Mark Davies handled Dan Gosling's cross and Neville made sure Jo took the penalty, which he converted. [LNB]Bolton manager Gary Megson said: 'That was a waste of 90 minutes, a complete waste of people being paid a week's wages, a complete waste of time. If we continue to play like that, we'll get relegated.'[LNB]
