Evans: Not much wrong at Bolton

Evans, however, does not want the job on permanent basis after he was put in temporary charge along with head coach Steve Wigley following Gary Megson's sacking.[LNB]The likes of Mark Hughes, Paul Jewell, Darren Ferguson, Peter Reid, Alan Curbishley and Italian Walter Zenga have all been linked to the vacant position.[LNB]Wigley will pick the team to face League Two side Lincoln in the FA Cup at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday with Wanderers on the back of a four-match unbeaten run.[LNB]But that record was not enough to save Megson, who failed to win over a section of the fans, and Evans said: "There is not a great deal wrong.[LNB]"The new manager will inherit a good club. The infrastructure is right on and off the pitch and there is a decent squad of players.[LNB]"They will be right behind him. There is a terrific atmosphere and that has never changed.[LNB]"As long as that dressing room spirit is maintained there is an opportunity to move forward."[LNB]Former Wolves academy chief Evans, who was recruited as assistant manager by Megson two years ago, is looking at the short term rather than the long term at the club.[LNB]"I will not be applying for this job. I have no intention of being the manager of Bolton Wanderers," he said.[LNB]"But equally I would like to feel I am professional enough and mature enough to do the best possible job I can during the time given to me.[LNB]"Steve and I come from similar backgrounds and have similar ideas. We have work to do and will continue to do that as best we can."[LNB]Meanwhile Megson has nothing but praise for the people he has left behind.[LNB]In a statement released through the League Managers' Association, he said: "Naturally I am saddened to receive the news from the club and disappointed not to have been given the opportunity to at least see out my contract.[LNB]"It is a great honour to manage at Premier League level and I am also proud to have managed a club with great history and tradition.[LNB]"I would to thank the players and all the staff for their efforts during my time in charge and I wish the club every success in the future."[LNB]LMA chief executive Richard Bevan believes Megson did a good job at the Reebok Stadium.[LNB]He said: "Gary is vastly experienced in the game with Bolton being his eighth club and he was becoming an established Premier League manager.[LNB]"After taking charge of a side that was at the foot of the Barclays Premier League he certainly achieved success by leading the club to a 13th place finish last season.[LNB]"With the club currently on a four game unbeaten run and only five points short of 10th placed Sunderland with two games in hand, there was every opportunity for Bolton to make a sudden surge up the table."[LNB][LNB]
