Dougie Freedman wants to hone Bolton's squad as the team look for promotion

Dougie Freedman is prioritising quality ahead of quantity as he seeks to rebuild the Bolton side and get their promotion bid back on track.

Since taking charge at the Reebok, the Scot has overseen an unbeaten four-game run which has seen a victory against Cardiff followed by three draws. But with the Trotters seven points off the play-off pace, the Wanderers boss has said he will need to make bold decisions if the Lancashire club are to make an immediate return to the Barclays Premier League. He said:

"It's no good having 40 players and 35 of them are no good. During the week, I'm understanding who wants to push on with their careers."

"The options are good to have, but you want the options that can win you games.

"We've got to look at the squad and see if it's the squad depth that we need, or whether it's the quality."
