Davis dismissal angers Megson

Gary Megson felt that Lucas Leiva conned the referee into sending Sean Davis off in Bolton's 3-2 defeat to Liverpool. The Trotters boss saw his team twice take the lead thanks to goals from Kevin Davies and Tamir Cohen, but it proved futile as Glen Johnson, Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard scored the goals to consign the hosts to their third consecutive defeat. However, the turning point of the match came when official Alan Wiley elected to give Davis his marching orders for a second bookable offence on Lucas. But Megson believes the Reds' Brazilian midfielder was guilty of gamesmanship and claimed it changed the game. "I'm not too sure if every club would have somebody sent-off in the instance," he told Sky Sports. "I can think of maybe five or six clubs that wouldn't (get a red card), we're not one of those five or six. "It's clever - you get hold of that ball you slow down and wait for the hit and over you go. It happened just in front of me in the first half and it's clever and it's cute. "We haven't got that at our football club so we either have to accept it or we have to start copying what everybody else does or we have to hope that the referees are going to realise what's going on and it's a bit soft." Megson must now pick his players up when Bolton travel to fellow pointless side Portsmouth in their next fixture on 12th September following a round of international football.
