Davies is ideal leader - Cahill

Davies has not let his new duties get in the way of his game and scored his 10th goal of the campaign in Saturday's tense 2-1 victory against West Ham at the Reebok Stadium.[LNB]Now in his sixth season at the club, it is the first time he has reached double figures in the Premier League.[LNB]At 31, Davies seems to be peaking - having taken the armband from Kevin Nolan following the midfielder's departure to Newcastle last month.[LNB]Cahill believes Bolton would be flying high and not concerned about relegation if every player put in a shift like Davies.[LNB]"He has been outstanding and taken to the captaincy brilliantly as well, " said the defender.[LNB]"All the players back him 100%, because he leads by example. If everyone followed his effort and determination we would be in the top half of the table.[LNB]"Kevin's got another goal and he is just getting better. He will keep improving until the end of the season.[LNB]"His confidence is high and he must believe he is going to score in every game, which is brilliant."[LNB]Davies extended Bolton's lead in the 11th minute with a neat finish after good footwork from Johan Elmander.[LNB]That rocked West Ham, who had found themselves behind two minutes earlier when Matt Taylor delivered a superb free-kick from 20 yards.[LNB]To their credit, they kept plugging away and pulled a goal back in the 66th minute when Scott Parker got on the end of a cross from Jonathon Spector.[LNB]That set up a rousing finale. But Bolton - with Cahill outstanding - held out to get the victory they craved.[LNB]"It was one of my better performances in the shirt. I felt pleased at the end of the game, " he told the club's official website.[LNB]"But the main thing is winning games, and that's what we did. We got the three points, which we desperately needed.[LNB]"West Ham are a good team, a passing team; they get it down and play. So you are going to have spells when you are under pressure, but we weathered it a lot better than we have done recently."[LNB]With the table still tight, it was a crucial win for a Bolton side whose form has been patchy.[LNB]Newcastle are the visitors on Sunday, and Wanderers boss Gary Megson said: "It is in our own hands.[LNB]"We knew if we could get the three points against West Ham there is another home game to follow.[LNB]"We are around mid-table, having playing seven of our eight games against the big four.[LNB]"We need to keep doing the stuff we do well and settle down a bit when we get on top."[LNB][LNB]
