Davies - I'm not dirty

Bolton captain Kevin Davies has defended his playing style after upsetting Hull City over the weekend. Davies' second-half tackle on Andy Dawson provoked a furious reaction from the Tigers and led to assistant boss Brian Horton being restrained by a police officer. Trotters manager Gary Megson later claimed that Hull had tried to get Davies booked, saying a member of their backroom team had gone in to referee Peter Walton's room at half-time. Davies has now voiced his disappointment over the whole incident but stressed that he would never deliberately try to injure an opponent. He insists there was no ill-feeling among the players and has promised to keep playing in the same aggressive but fair manner. "The referees know me well enough to know what they are going to get," said Davies, who leads the statistics for fouls committed this season. "I play the game fairly and I'd never attempt to hurt anyone. "Me and Andy Dawson swapped shirts after the game, so it's no problem to me and obviously not to him. "The way their bench over-reacted was disappointing. I'd heard they had been on to the ref at half-time saying I was leading with the elbow. "That shows how desperate they were. "It's the kind of thing I'm getting used to now. But I suppose if Fergie (Sir Alex Ferguson) can do it, then so can Hull."
