Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill has signed a three-year contract to stay at the Reebok Stadium following interest from rival Premier League clubs. Cahill has made a huge impression at Bolton since joining from Aston Villa 18 months ago and was drafted into the England squad in the summer. The 23-year-old has been linked with the likes of Everton and Tottenham, but has now committed his long-term future to the Trotters. He has been holding talks over a new deal for several weeks and has followed the lead of team-mate Matt Taylor by signing a contract extension. Trotters boss Gary Megson is delighted that the centre-half will be staying at the club and outlined his importance to the team. "We're delighted to keep Gary because I've always said I want to build the team around him," said Megson. "He's been monitored by a lot of big clubs, so his decision to stay is one of the best signings we could have made. "I believe he's easily the best young centre-back in the country."
