Bolton's £18m man Cahill pays tribute to Burnley ahead of crunch clash

[LNB]Bolton insist their England defender is not for sale despite severalPremier League clubs watching him keenly in today's Lancashire derbyand the valuation reflects their determination to keep hold of the24-year-old. [LNB]Cahill has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining from Aston Villanearly two years ago but he credits his emergence to a loan spell atBurnley under then manager Steve Cotterill. [LNB]Five years ago, Cahill was struggling to break through at Villa andCotterill spotted his potential and brought him in on loan. [LNB]Cahill said: 'Burnley are a club who gave me my first chance and builtmy career really, or started my career for me. [LNB]'They gave me a chanceand I took the chance. I've got very fond memories, it was brilliant. It was Steve Cotterillwho took a chance on me.[LNB]'It took great bottle from him and I owe him alot. I liked him and I got on well with him. [LNB]'He brought my career onand I got thirty odd games in which helped my career no end. Steve said to me when I got there that it was a 'sink or swim'scenario. [LNB]'Thankfully it went well for me there and I got on witheveryone and the manager was brilliant. He played me every game I wasfit.' [LNB] Progression: Cahill is know knocking on the England door[LNB]Cahill signed initially for a month but such was his form that hisloan was extended twice, eventually to the end of the season when hepicked up the club's player of the year and young player of the year.[LNB]Tottenham and Chelsea are among his current admirers but first he hopesto propel Bolton to safety at Burnley's expense. [LNB]'It's abig game for us,' he said. [LNB]'We've had a few good performances lately and have tostart picking up some points.'[LNB]Burnley, meanwhile, have agreed a fee of £300,000 with Newcastle forthe signing of defender David Edgar. [LNB]The 22-year-old moved to Turf Moor in the summer on a four-year deal,but the clubs were unable to reach agreement on the transfer fee.[LNB]The matter had been set to go to a tribunal because of the Canada U21international's age.
