Bolton Wanderers 2 Portsmouth 2: match report

Bolton Wanderers' Premier League future still hangs in the balance after they carelessly allowed Portsmouth to wipe out a two-goal deficit in a mistake-riddled encounter at the Reebok Stadium. [LNB]First-half goals from strikers Ivan Klasnic and Kevin Davies had put Bolton into a commanding position leading them comfortably on course to secure the victory that would have confirmed a 10th successive season in the top flight. [LNB]Even before they had scored twice in two first-half minutes Bolton had created sufficient opportunities in the opening 10 minutes to have been comfortable in command. As early as the fourth minute Matt Taylor delivered a free-kick that the Portsmouth goalkeeper, David James, carelessly spilled. The rebound fell invitingly for Gary Cahill who jabbed an attempt behind off a post. [LNB]Cahill was again in the thick of the action in the eighth minute, turning in a header when Davies squared the ball across the visiting penalty area. At this time James revealed a cleaner pair of thighs to save as he did 60 seconds later when keeping out a Klasnic attempt. [LNB]There was a brief Portsmouth response, John Utaka hitting a 20-yard shot that was saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen although the Bolton goalkeeper knew little about the crisp 20-yarder from Tommy Smith which came back off a post. [LNB]However, Portsmouth only succumbed in the 26th minute Klasnic heading in when Jack Wilshere crossed from the right. And their fate appeared to be sealed two minutes later when Davies headed in for a Vladimir Weiss cross from the right. [LNB]But then Bolton became careless in the second half although Taylor had a chance to put the blame beyond Portsmouth shortly into the second half. His miss proved costly. [LNB]Dindane halved the deficit when he bundled the ball in for a cross by Fred Piquionne and then, when Utaka crossed from the left Dindane was again on hand to force in the equaliser. [LNB]
