Spearing banned for Bolton

Bolton midfielder Jay Spearing will sit out Tuesday's Capital One Cup first-round home clash with Burton due to suspension.

Spearing has to serve a one-game ban following his sending-off in Saturday's 0-0 Sky Bet Championship draw with Derby at the Macron Stadium.

Wanderers skipper Darren Pratley will be assessed after picking up an ankle injury in the Derby contest.

Fit-again Tom Walker is ready to make his first appearance of the season, but Tim Ream (dead leg), Max Clayton (knee), Derik Osede (ankle) and David Wheater (calf) are all still unavailable.

Jon McLaughlin's return from suspension gives Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink a selection dilemma in goal.

McLaughlin missed Albion's opening League One fixture serving a ban carried over from last season so Remi Matthews, on loan from Norwich, made his Football League debut on Saturday.

Hasselbaink must decide whether to recall McLaughlin or stick with Matthews while Dean Lyness, on the bench against Scunthorpe, is also an option for the Dutchman.

Zeli Ismail missed the big kick-off at the weekend with a knee injury and it remains to be seen whether the on-loan Wolves winger will travel.
