Bolton to follow Everton's lead
Trotters boss Megson has watched on in admiration during the past seven years as Moyes has made the Toffees a forced to be reckoned with.[LNB]They have often punched above their weight, pipping Liverpool to the fourth Champions League spot in 2005 and dumping their local rivals out of the FA Cup last night.[LNB]Megson was at Goodison Park to witness Dan Gosling's extra-time strike book Everton's fifth-round spot, and he will back there on Saturday with Bolton for a Premier League clash.[LNB]"David is a good friend of mine," said Megson.[LNB]"We were talking last week at Old Trafford about the respective problems that we both have, and they are similar.[LNB]"I know David would look at his squad and say it's too small. He's got quality but maybe not got enough quantity.[LNB]"It's got to the point where he is having huge problems with his strikers. He has to go with Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini up top, and they're doing a manful job.[LNB]"To be able to beat one of the best teams in Europe in Liverpool - with no recognised centre-forward - is a great testament to the job David has performed there.[LNB]"I think Everton are a pointer for how we should do things at this football club."[LNB]Megson is a confirmed admirer of Everton's central defensive partnership of Joleon Lescott and Phil Jagielka.[LNB]Both men learned their trade in the Coca-Cola Championship with, respectively, Wolves and Sheffield United.[LNB]And both have won full international honours with England since being recruited by Moyes.[LNB]Jagielka was outstanding again in Everton's FA Cup win over Liverpool and Lescott was not far behind him.[LNB]"Just look what David has done with Lescott and Jagielka," enthused Megson.[LNB]"He brought in Lescott from Wolves and he's gone on to establish himself in the England side.[LNB]"Jagielka is another huge success story.[LNB]"In Sheffield, where I live, nobody knew what Jagielka's best position was when he played for Sheffield United.[LNB]"Was it as a holding midfielder, a right-back or a centre-half?[LNB]"I was at Goodison last night and both Jagielka and Lescott were outstanding.[LNB]"They both did brilliantly and Jagielka is flying at the moment."[LNB]Last weekend's 3-2 win over Tottenham ended a miserable run of one point from five league matches and eased the pressure on Megson, at least for now.[LNB]His side will seek to take advantage of Everton's midweek exertions when they travel to Merseyside.[LNB]Megson added: "Everton will get a huge fillip from beating their local rivals in the last minute of extra-time.[LNB]"But they played for two hours on a Wednesday night in a very intense derby, so there is the possibility they may have picked up a couple of knocks while our players were resting.[LNB]"Whether that's an advantage or not we will find out on Saturday."[LNB][LNB]
