Bolton defender Sam Ricketts to have achilles operation and faces six months out

Bolton's Sam Ricketts faces six months out after suffering an achilles injury during Wednesday's FA Cup fourth-round replay victory at Wigan.

The Wales international defender was carried off on a stretcher in the second half after a challenge on Wigan's Victor Moses.

The injury cast a shadow over Bolton's 1-0 victory.

Team-mate Kevin Davies tweeted: 'Sam going in for an op on his achilles tomorrow (Friday), will be out for up to 6 months, gutted for him.'
