Cahill is highly regarded by Capello, who called the 23-year-old in to the full England squad for a World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan in June after Rio Ferdinand withdrew. Bolton placed a prohibitive price tag on Cahill earlier this year of £20 million following interest from Arsenal. Cahill, who joined Bolton in Jan 2008 for £5 million from Aston villa, has also attracted the attentions of AC Milan, according to a report in the Mirror. Meanwhile, Bolton manager Gary Megson has insisted he has no plans to sell record signing Johan Elmander, despite the Swede’s poor return of goals since he joined the club last summer in a deal that could end up costing the club upwards of £10 million. Elmander’s goal against West Ham in their 3-1 extra-time victory in the Carling Cup this week was his first in nine months. And the arrival of Ivan Klasnic has placed a question mark over the forward’s future. However, Megson maintains that Elmander is still very much in his plans and that it is only a matter of time before the goals start to come. “I am not ready to give up on Johan and nobody at this club is either,” said Megson. “I really hope that goal relaxes him because the arrival of Ivan Klasnic will put him and Kevin Davies under pressure. “Everyone is concerned about the lack of goals – none more so than Johan. “He wants to do well and if his personality was different and he thought ‘stuff it, I can’t be bothered’ he probably would have scored by now. “But because he gets so intense and is so determined to score at times, he is not relaxed.”
