Bolton boss ponders Knight move

Megson is in the market for another defensive recruit and has identified Knight as the man who can compete with Gary Cahill, Andy O'Brien and Danny Shittu for a first-team place. The 29-year-old former Fulham man has failed to become a regular starter under Martin O'Neill at Villa Park and it's thought he will be allowed to leave if Villa can get in a replacement. O'Neill is hoping to bolster his rearguard with Portsmouth's Sylvain Distin or Middlesbrough's David Wheater and is unlikely to allow Knight to go without signing one of that pair, especially with Martin Laursen retiring. Knight - who signed from Fulham for £3.5million two years ago - is good friends with new Bolton recruit Sean Davis and Megson is hoping their friendship might nudge Knight into moving north.
