Elevenses - Beckham's MLS Cup dream dies

Published: 15 Nov 2010 - 10:15:26

David Beckham's MLS Cup hopes were crushed yesterday when his much-fancied LA Galaxy side were beaten 3-0 in the play-offs by Dallas.

Galaxy were favourites to win the Western Conference Championship game at their Home Depot Center stadium, but the visitors proved too strong. Beckham's own performance was criticised in a report by Reuters, with the England legend said to be short of match fitness.

Dallas will now face Colorado Rapids in the MLS Cup on Sunday, with both teams in line to win a maiden title.

Elevenses was rather amused by the fan who displayed a "Bring back Ray Wilkins" banner in the wake of Chelsea's 3-0 loss to Sunderland yesterday.

Did the former England midfielder allow himself a little chuckle watching his old team ripped apart yesterday? We really hope so.

Ashley Cole's assist was particularly enjoyable, the England full-back delivering the kind of service Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka had been begging for all afternoon.

Elevenses is a high-energy performer who bites at the ankles of football and is not afraid to put a boot in. If it’s in the game, it’s fair game. Unsurprisingly Elevenses is served at 11am every weekday morning. So come and join us for a cup full of opinion and hilarity, and don’t be shy if you’ve got a story you think we should cover.
