Rumours - Chelsea close in on Benayoun

Published: 01 Jun 2010 - 06:53:00

This one looks like a goer. Chelsea are closing in on Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun, with the player himself confident an agreement can be reached between the clubs.

Reports suggest Liverpool have already rejected a £4 million bid for the Israel international, but Chelsea are desperate to find a replacement for Joe Cole and should have no problem stumping up some extra cash.

Cole's contract negotiations have broken down at Stamford Bridge, with Manchester United leading the race to sign the out-of-favour England midfielder - who looks certain to leave Chelsea this summer.

Benayoun said last week: "Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool. Chelsea will have to pay some £6million but, I believe that, in the end, I'll be moving there."

Meanwhile, Stoke are reportedly readying a £12m bid for West Ham striker Carlton Cole.

According to The Mirror, Tony Pulis is keen to make a big-name signing this summer and Cole is the man he wants - he'll even throw in Dave Kitson as part exchange in the deal.

Finally, Craig Bellamy could be on his way to the Championship to join Cardiff City.

The volatile striker is concerned about his future at Manchester City, and would favour a move to his native Wales ahead of joining another top-flight club in England.
