Rumours - Rooney set for Ronaldo showdown

By 30 April 2010 07:03

Wayne Rooney will go head to head with Cristiano Ronaldo and a handful of the world's best players in a "gladiators-style" skills competition at the O2 Arena.

The Daily Mirror releaved yesterday that Rooney could be paid as much as £500,000 to appear at the A:3K event on July 17, just six days after the World Cup final.

Reports suggest Cesc Fabregas, Didier Drogba, David Villa and Steven Gerrard have also been lined up to appear.

No mention of Lionel Messi as yet, but you'd imagine he'd be top of the wanted list.

According to the ever-reliable Daily Star, Harry Redknapp likes the look of Bayern Munich midfielder Hamit Altintop and wants him at the Lane.

The Turkish international will be out of contract at the end of the season, but Spurs will have to compete with Galatasaray and Europa League finalists Atletico Madrid for his signature.

Finally, Roberto Mancini has apparently told Carlos Tevez he can leave the club if he's not happy.

Cue speculation involving the words Real, Madrid, Manchester and City.
