Rumours - United want Modric to replace Scholes

Published: 29 Apr 2010 - 06:01:36

Manchester United are always been linked to strikers these days, but the big rumour in today's papers sees them in pursuit of Tottenham midfielder Luca Modric.

According to The Sun, United are plotting a £25 million raid for the Croatian, who returned from a broken leg in December and has been in excellent form of late.

Sir Alex Ferguson apparently sees Modric as the ideal replacement for Paul Scholes, and has made the 24-year-old his number one transfer target this summer.

Fergie said recently that Modric was playing "out of his skin", and with speculation suggesting Michael Carrick has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford there could even be a swap deal on the cards.

Staying with United, there's a rather ridiculous story in the Mirror suggesting Wayne Rooney is on his way to Real Madrid.

Apparently Rooney was asked to don a white shirt while filming an advert in Barcelona.

Um...he does play for England doesn't he?
