Rumours - Fergie fancies Gareth Bale at United
Published: 22 Apr 2010 - 10:05:16
Tottenham's Gareth Bale could join Manchester United this summer in a deal worth £20 million.
Fergie sees the Welsh international, who can play at full-back or on the wing, as the long term successor to Ryan Giggs.
The rosy-cheeked rampager has been in excellent form this season, helping Tottenham to fourth place in the Premier League, as well as scoring in last weekend’s 2-1 win over title chasing Chelsea.
Bale is also the subject of interest from money bags Manchester City and Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan, but it is thought Old Trafford is his favoured destination. Looks like Sir Alex still has the pulling power his rich rivals lack.
However, Benfica winger Angel di Maria looks set to snub rainy Manchester in favour of majestic Madrid.
Ferguson has been keen on the youngster for several months, and is reportedly willing to pay up to £25 million to land him. Unfortunately for United, the allure of the bright lights of Real Madrid will prove too much to resist for this Argentine Angel.
And in a gently simmering subplot to Saturday’s biggest game, Emmanuel Adebayor has been told to keep cool when he returns to the Emirates for the first time with new club Manchester City.
Ade, after scoring his side's third goal, famously ran 90 yards to celebrate in front of Gunners fans when the sides met at Eastlands in September, and was fined £25,000.
Judging by his sporadic form of late, watching the Togo international celebrate scoring may not be a problem safety stewards have to deal with.
