Blackpool boss Colin Hendry has confirmed the club have taken up an option to extend Richie Wellens' contract by two years.
The decision means the 24-year-old midfielder will stay with the Seasiders until at least the summer of 2007.
He has been a key figure at Bloomfield Road since his move from Manchester United in March 2000, playing well over 200 first-team games.
News of Wellens' deal comes after club captain Mark McGregor and leading scorer Keigan Parker agreed to extend their contracts last week.
