We could have put the game beyond reach several times.

Shame we can't have Mark Clattenburg refereeing us like that every week - I thought he got most things right, letting one or 2 things go rather than blowing for every little misdemeanour, and showed calm authority at all times What's everyone talking about?, Was it a fair result? we ask these and more questions - you supply the answers after the Seasiders welcomed Royalty to Bloomfield Road and witnessed the goal of the Season from Luke Varney against a battling Wolves. What's the talk in the stands. How much everyone is enjoying the season, the quality of football, the atmosphere.... in fact everything about Blackpool in the Premier League. DM"Care for a prawn sandwich, Your Highness?" JSWas it a fair result? To be honest I thought that on the overall balance of play Wolves were certainly worth a point at least. We were flattered to go in at 2-0 at half time and although we created some good openings in the 2nd half they tended to be on the break between spells of Wolves pressure. Having said that it's about taking chances, and we took more than they did! Job done! DMYes, though Wolves put a lot of pressure on, they failed to make it pay and only scored at all when Evatt was off the pitch. JSBest chant?Nothing new, but a good atmosphere again. DMNothing outstanding.JSFunniest moment?First, the description of our group of supporters as being 'like a row of kettles' after we all exhaled loudly in unison after another late Wolves chance went begging - PHEEEEEEW!Second, Ollie's admission that the final substitution had been cocked up by getting Carney, Crainey, Varney, Carney etc confused in the chinese whispers between manager, staff and 4th official! Priceless, but thank goodness it didn't go pear-shaped!Third, the half-time hijacking of the Wonga zorb ball was an amusing aside. How on earth do you lose something that big?! DMWhen Hanrahan, desperate to get things going in the last minute, thumped a free kick up the backside of one of his own players. If it had been Charlie who picked up the loose ball he would have slotted it into the goal from the half way line, unfortunately DJ Campbell's effort was just a bit weak. JSWho were Blackpool's star players? At the back Evatt was immense throughout the game.... and I enjoyed his 2 first half forays into enemy territory which resulted in a rasping shot on target and a quality cross-cum-shot. Up front Varney did a lot of excellent work in the air and on the ground in addition to a corker of a goal and an assist. Let's give Kingson a shout too for the great reaction save. Did he get a touch on the one that hit the post as well? DMPhilips looked very good on the attack, but he is not as good defensively as GTF. Cathcart had another great game, he is an unsung hero and a big part of the reason why we are doing so well in this division. But you can't take it away from Varney, apart from his great goal he had a good game all round. Sign him up! JSAny regrets? That we can't have Mark Clattenburg refereeing us like that every week - I thought he got most things right, letting one or 2 things go rather than blowing for every little misdemeanour, and showed calm authority at all times. The players themselves appeared to respect him too. DMWe could have put the game beyond reach several times in the second half. But overall, a great result. JSOpposition any good?Wolves looked better than their points tally would suggest. Played some good stuff, mainly through Jarvis who was a constant threat down their left but were unable to create many clear cut chances thanks to the quality of our defending snuffing them out before they got a shot off. DMBetter than their position suggests - except that they could not make a lot of pressure turn into chances and goals. They also made it a very good game of football to watch, plenty of energy, nothing dirty and overall great value for money.JSWhat next?Let's clear the unease caused by selection and bonus issues and go into the Bolton game firing. Bolton are playing extremely well at the moment so to get a point would be a major achievement, so it's a good job we've got an easy home game after that! DMBolton, away. They are on a real high at the moment and it will be a very hard game, and after that it is Man Utd at Bloomfield Road - but that's what we came into the Prem for. JSFinal thoughts? It's a blessing that it's a 38 game season not 46, as my heart rate had only just returned to normal following the West Ham game. Too many midweek games don't give me enough recovery time, never mind the players! DMThis was a key game, especially with a difficult run coming up. A defeat would have had us looking downwards, but now we can say we are half way there, with much less than half the season gone. We really can do it, if we keep believing. JS
