Southern suffers ankle woe

Blackpool have suffered a blow as they continue their battle against relegation after being told that Keith Southern will not feature in the first team until February.

The midfielder picked up an ankle injury in this month's win against QPR and has had an operation to correct tendon damage.

"I didn't want to let people know before the Cardiff game but Keith had an operation over the weekend," said Seasiders boss Simon Grayson.

"A tendon has come away in his ankle - our physio knows exactly what the problem is - and he will be out for a couple of months.

"It is a big blow for the club. It's also a big blow for the lad himself because he has been playing very well this year."
