Tony Parkes had been in caretaker charge at Bloomfield Road, along with coach Steve Thompson, since Simon Grayson's departure to Leeds United in December. He was offered the post permanently after keeping the Seasiders in the Championship, but declined the opportunity due to family reasons. Oyston is now thought to be close to naming Parkes' successor, and said: "It's important that we move on as quickly as possible in the planning process because there are a lot of changes that need to be made. "Whoever comes in will have to support those changes in some areas of the club that are long overdue. "It's important we have as seamless a transition as possible."
