Parkes regret at Pool exit
20 May 2009 - 11:14:13
Caretaker manager Tony Parkes claims he deserved a better deal than he was offered after deciding to walk away from Blackpool.
Parkes successfully kept the Seasiders in the Championship this season but turned down an offer from chairman Karl Oyston to become the club's permanent manager.
"I feel sad they offered me what they did after what I'd done. That is a regret," he told the Blackpool Gazette.
"I felt the offer that came was unjust and there was no way that I could accept it. I don't want to cause a scene or a major problem, because I don't want to go down that road of people saying I'm bitter and twisted.
"It's just a shame the offer wasn't right. That was the main reason that I didn't take the job.
"We had some terrific results and some great days and they will stick with me for the rest of my life. It is great to have those memories and I am pleased with what I did.
"I just thought I deserved a bit better than what I got. I can't understand why I had that kind of offer from what I'd done.
"That will be the thing that will always concern me."
