The midfield duo were hoping to secure permanent deals at Bloomfield Road after being signed on a non-contract basis on Monday.

Both played in the 2-1 Carling Cup victory against Crewe on Tuesday night, Nowland scoring with a 20-yard free-kick, but it was not enough to persuade Holloway to retain their services.

"Both lads are good honest pros and I wish them well in trying to find another club, I have no doubts that they will get fixed up," he told the club's official website.

"I promised them that I would make a decision before the end of the week, they need to be playing week in and week out and unfortunately I'm not in a position to offer them that.

"I would like to thank them for their efforts and I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing them well for the future."
