New deal suits Southern

Blackpool midfielder Keith Southern has penned a new contract running until the summer of 2009.

The 25-year-old schemer has been with the Seasiders for just over four years, having joined from Everton for a nominal fee after impressing while on loan at Bloomfield Road.

Southern said after the 2-1 home win over Carlisle United: "I was more than happy to show my commitment to the club by signing a new contract.

"The club showed their commitment to me by offering a new deal six months before my old one ran out."

Southern has made well over 150 appearances for Blackpool to date, scoring 18 goals in the process.
