And he revealed when Liverpool striker Fernando Torres limped off early on he had thought: "Maybe this is our day."
Suffering from a groin injury Torres was replaced by French striker David Ngog after 10 minutes.
"To see Torres - in my opinion the best centre forward in the world when he's fit - come off, that gave us a boost," added Holloway, whose side led 2-0 at half-time thanks to a Charlie Adam penalty and a Luke Varney goal.

Kyrgiakos was denied a second goal in stoppage time after a great save from Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks.
"Matt Gilks has been in sparkling form," said Holloway. "He came in last season and replaced a very good goalkeeper.
"Our lads say we are OK away from home but now we need to sort out our home form," added Holloway, whose side host Manchester City after the international break.
"We need a certain number of points [to stay up] and I won't be smiling until we've got a lot more."

"When the fans were singing You'll Never Walk Alone - it's my dad's favourite song but he's no longer with me - I was singing myself and it was a bit emotional," said Holloway.
"This is not far off the home of football - these supporters have seen some of the best football over the years and in my era as a player there was no better team in the world.
"The boys made me so proud and for that set of supporters to clap us off that is all I wanted - that was what my dream was last night. This is a fantastic moment for Blackpool."
