Blackpool loan signing Paul Gerrard is looking forward to challenging for a starting spot with the Seasiders, having fallen down the pecking order at Sheffield United.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper has moved to Bloomfield Road on loan until the end of the season, having been third-choice for the Blades in recent months.

He told his new club's official website: "If I'm honest Paddy Kenny has not really put a foot wrong even though the team have been struggling by their standards.

"It is frustrating, you work hard during the week and you know deep down you're never going to get a chance, so when you get opportunities like this you've got to take them.

"I had no hesitation, it's a great opportunity for me to get involved on a Saturday afternoon, whether it be on the bench or getting a chance to play."

Gerrard was an unused sub for the 1-0 defeat at Bristol City at the weekend.
