Burgess urged to impress

Blackpool boss Simon Grayson is hopeful that striker Ben Burgess can prove his worth after an injury-hit first season at Bloomfield Road.

The 25-year-old scored just twice in 27 league outings last term after joining from Hull City, but was on target in a midweek friendly against Wigan Athletic.

Grayson told the Blackpool Gazette: "I'm hopeful that he has an injury-free season first and foremost because I think he showed signs last year, when he had a run of games, that he can cause problems.

"With three other strikers at the club, plus Gary Taylor-Fletcher, it shows that we have got some forwards who are more than capable.

"Ben is a confidence player, as all strikers are, and hopefully his goal on Wednesday is the first of many."
