Jarrett Rivers set for Blackpool bow against Walsall

Jarrett Rivers could make his Football League debut for Blackpool against Walsall.

Former Blyth Spartans midfielder Rivers has been ruled out so far with a groin injury but returned to training on Thursday for the bottom-of-the-table Seasiders.

Neil McDonald, still without a win to his credit since arriving in the Bloomfield Road hotseat, remains without goalkeeper Colin Doyle and John Herron, though.

However, Doyle does not need surgery on his shoulder problem and is expected to return to full training with midfielder Herron (knee) next week.

Walsall boss Dean Smith could keep faith with the side that beat Brighton in the League Cup when they head to Blackpool.

The Saddlers set up a third-round tie with Chelsea after their 2-1 midweek win and youngsters Rico Henry, Reece Flanagan and Kieron Morris may all keep their places.

Left-back Henry scored the winner as Andy Taylor, Romaine Sawyers and Anthony Forde were all among the substitutes.

Five-goal striker Tom Bradshaw will continue to lead the line for the Saddlers.
