Blackpool v Liverpool called off due to a frozen pitch

26 December 2010 10:31
Blackpool held a pitch inspection five hours before their scheduled 3pm kick-off against Liverpool on Boxing Day to see if the match could go ahead but the pitch was ruled uplayable. The Seasiders do not have undersoil heating at Bloomfield Road and despite covering the pitch there was always doubt over whether the surface will be playable.Despite Ground staff at Bloomfield Road working throughout the night to ensure that the fixture takes place the pitch failed an inspection at 10am this morning. While it has been well documented that the club does not have undersoil heating, several industrial hot air blowers had been sourced along with additional frost protection covers. The timing of the pitch inspection was been made in consultation with the Barclays Premier League, match referee Mike Oliver and officials from Liverpool. The fixture has now been re-arranged for Tuesday 12th January KO 8pm. Charlie Adam who was banned for the Boxing day clash will now sit out Blackpool's trip to the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening.
