Mellis doubt for Tangerines

Jacob Mellis, one of many new faces to arrive at Bloomfield Road this summer, is a doubt for the Lancashire derby with Blackburn after missing Tuesday's Capital One Cup loss to Shrewsbury.

Midfielder Mellis sustained an ankle injury in the opening-day defeat to Nottingham Forest and will be assessed ahead of the Rovers clash.

The Tangerines are yet to name a full substitutes' bench this season after injury and paperwork issues wreaked havoc on their squad in the opening two fixtures.

Bobby Grant, who missed the whole of pre-season after suffering a knee injury while on loan at Fleetwood in March, may take up a place on the bench as he looks to make his comeback.

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer is likely to make more adjustments to his side following their Capital One Cup defeat to Scunthorpe.

Bowyer had made 10 changes from the draw with Cardiff and said those players had missed "an opportunity to get in the starting 11".

Summer signing Chris Brown has been hampered by a knee injury over the summer and he could make his first appearance against the Seasiders.

A large amount of the squad overcame a bout of illness last week and Bowyer looks to have a near full-strength squad. Loanee Alex Baptiste, who spent five years at Bloomfield Road, is expected to be one of many to be brought back into the team.
