Blackpool story

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has comforted Charlie Adam by underlining his captain's importance to the Tangerines' Barclays Premier League campaign. Scotland international Adam was one of the stars of Blackpool's unexpected rise to the top flight and remains a key component of the midfield. The 25-year-old former Rangers player endured a frustrating afternoon on Saturday, however, as he scored a horrendous own goal in a 2-1 Lancashire derby loss to Blackburn at Bloomfield Road. Holloway said: "He is one of my players who I am very proud of. Charlie is one of that midfield area that pass the ball brilliantly when he is on song. "He is one of the players I need to play well every week. I like it when he runs with it, I have never seen midfield players run with it like he can. He causes all sorts of problems when he does it. "But does that make him any more special than anyone else? Not in my book. When he deserves an ice cream I'll give him an ice cream, but I'm not sure he deserves one after just heading one in our net!"
