Blackpool's strained relationship with their fanbase has taken another blow after a supporter was abused over Twitter from an account used to promote the club's commercial ventures.
A post from the @CommercialBFC handle used the phrase "typical a**ehole w**kers" in reply to a fan who had made a bet with them over the state of the Bloomfield Road pitch ahead of the first home game of the season on Saturday.
The user had pledged to send £20 to the club if the pitch was "what I'd describe as 'good'" following concerns over the turf after the stadium staged a Neil Diamond concert three weeks earlier.
The commercial account, which described itself in its bio as the "Official Blackpool FC Commercial Twitter Account", told them to instead send it to the Gary Parkinson Trust, a charity set up for the former Pool player and coach, and then queried whether they had done so after Blackpool were beaten 2-0 by Rochdale on Saturday.
When the supporter told them he would "send £20 anyway as its for a good cause", he received an abusive reply.
Tweets from the @CommercialBFC account directed at the Blackpool fan read: "if you don't think its upto it don't bother, but that wasn't the agreement, but as usual you've been proven wrong and need to" " back track, typical a**ehole w**kers!!!"
Those tweets were sent early on Sunday morning and remained up for several hours before the account was deactivated by the Sky Bet League One club.
Blackpool have previously encouraged their followers to follow that account but moved to distance themselves from the tweets with a club statement issued on their website on Sunday.
It read: "The club has been made aware of comments emanating from a Twitter account overnight that has previously advertised commercial opportunities.
"This account has not been utilised for promotional purposes by the club for some time and is not accessible to any current employees.
"The club does not condone the views expressed and has since had this account removed."
Chairman Karl Oyston will this week return to the day-to-day running of the club after serving a six-week Football Association ban for calling a supporter "a retard" during a foul-mouthed text-message exchange back in November.
Neil McDonald's men have yet to win any of their three games in all competitions this term and have not recorded a competitive victory in seven months.
