Blackpool close in on new boss

Blackpool are hoping to make a quick appointment after Tony Parkes turned down the chance to stay on as manager. Parkes had been in caretaker charge at Bloomfield Road, along with coach Steve Thompson, since Simon Grayson's departure to Leeds United in December. He was offered the post permanently after keeping the Seasiders in the Championship, but has declined the opportunity due to family reasons. The club have been conducting interviews and Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston confirmed an appointment could be imminent. "We finish interviews at lunchtime today and I will then recommend my choice to the board and it will go from there," said Oyston in the Blackpool Gazette. "I am loathe to put a definite timescale on it because we need to sit down with Valery Belokon and talk about it, but we want to make an appointment as quickly as we possibly can. "We want to appoint the best man for the job, that goes without saying. I want someone to continue the values that have got us to where we are over the course of the last few seasons." Bury boss Alan Knill, Cambridge United chief Gary Brabin and former Leicester City manager Ian Holloway are the prime candidates, while Thompson and ex-Oldham Athletic boss Andy Ritchie are also being considered.
