Jacob Blyth opens Blackpool account in victory over Southend
Jacob Blyth scored his first goal for the club as Blackpool made it four games unbeaten and took another step towards safety with a 2-0 victory over Southend.
The hosts looked lively straight from the kick off as Blyth's effort from 20 yards stung the palms of Daniel Bentley before Mark Cullen dragged an effort inches wide two minutes later.
Jamar Loza missed a golden chance to put Southend ahead after 27 minutes when the ball deflected into his path and, with Colin Doyle scrambling, the striker hit the post from two yards.
Play swung straight to the other end, Bentley punching away a thunderous Brad Potts strike from 25 yards.
Potts went close again after 40 minutes, firing just wide from 18 yards following a superb team move, but Blackpool took the lead after 49 minutes when David Norris' shot fell to Cullen six yards out and he headed into the far corner.
And the Seasiders wrapped up the points on 79 minutes when Cullen launched a superb run down the right and cut back to Blyth who slotted home.
