Blackburn Rovers signing Johann Vogel doesn't expect to make an instant impression on the first-team picture at Ewood Park.
The 31-year-old Switzerland international has penned a two-and-a-half year deal with Mark Hughes' side but, following ten months in the wilderness, is predicting a cautious start to life in England.
The ex-PSV Eindhoven and AC Milan midfielder had not played since July following an acrimonious dispute with former club Real Betis.
Vogel doesn't expect to make his Premier League debut when Wigan Athletic visit Ewood Park at the weekend.
"I've trained more than two weeks with the squad and I think I have to practice a little bit more," he told the club's official website.
"That is normal after ten months without playing, but if I am given my chance to play then I will do my best.
"If the manager thinks I'm ready then I'll be happy as ten months is a long time. If he wants me to play this season I'll grab my chance."
However, Vogel is confident of making an impression in England after a high-profile career across several leading leagues in Europe.
"I played many years in the Netherlands, in Serie A and the Premera Liga in Spain and now for me it is a great opportunity for me to play in the Premier League," he added.
"It has always been an objective of mine to play in England. I can't wait to get started and I hope I will enjoy this time."
