Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Johann Vogel following a successful trial at Ewood Park.
Vogel, 31, has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the option for a further year after impressing Rovers boss Mark Hughes.
The experienced Switzerland international was a free agent after being released by Real Betis following an acrimonious dispute with the Spanish club which ended in December.
The former PSV Eindhoven and AC Milan midfielder had been linked with a move to Everton before opting to take up the offer a trial at Blackburn.
"I've seen him play many, many times and he is the right quality," admitted Hughes earlier in the month.
"But the situation is we have to see if he would be fit enough to make an impact over the rest of this season or whether we should consider it for next season."
