Blackburn Rovers have agreed a deal to sign Chile international midfielder Carlos Villanueva on a season-long loan from Audax Italiano.
The highly-rated 22-year-old is in line for a permanent switch to Ewood Park if he impresses, with a £4million deal in the pipeline.
Manager Paul Ince told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "He's a very skilful and exciting player and hopefully it's a signing that will excite our fans.
"Getting him here excites me and shows the kind of football I'm looking to play at Blackburn.
"He's a talented kid, and the fact that we've only managed to get him out on loan initially says it all, because his club would have preferred to keep him.
"So we'll see how it goes. It's always hard when you come to a new country.
"I don't want to put too much expectation on the lad because it will take him time to settle in, but we believe we've got a decent player."
Villanueva had earlier said: "I am very happy because I am going to be playing competitive football.
"I'm very keen to get things right and I hope to play as much as possible, as I intend on staying in England for a long time."
