Veteran duo earn Ince praise
25 Sep 2008 - 08:58:30
Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince praised his old guard after Tugay and Robbie Fowler masterminded a 1-0 Carling Cup third round success over Everton.
Toffees manager David Moyes singled out 38-year-old midfielder Tugay as the stand out performer in the third round tie at Ewood Park on Wednesday evening, while veteran striker Fowler was also a thorn in the side of the opposition defence on his Rovers debut.
"The two old men were different class," claimed Ince.
"Robbie was champing at the bit and keen to prove a point. I played him in a slightly deeper role and he did ever so well. He never lost a ball and had a couple of chances.
"He made a difference tonight and showed a lot of lovely touches. He is a natural goalscorer and you do not lose it. The signs are good."
Meanwhile, Ince revealed his concern after goalkeeper Paul Robinson was forced off after just 15 minutes of the tie with a calf injury.
"Paul seems to have run over a black cat as he has had a lot of injuries recently," he continued.
"He is going to have a scan and fingers crossed he will be ready for Saturday.
"Having said that, Browny (Jason Brown) came in and looked assured and steady."
