UEFA has banned Wisla Krakow defender Nikola Mijailovic for five European matches after finding him guilty of racially abusing Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy.
The South Africa international clashed with Mijailovic at the end of Rovers' 2-1 UEFA Cup victory in Poland last week and later revealed he had been subjected to racially motivated taunts throughout the match.
Blackburn immediately made an official complaint to UEFA and European football's governing body has taken swift action.
A statement on UEFA's official website confirmed: "Wisla Krakow defender Nikola Mijailovic has been banned by UEFA for five UEFA club competition matches for racial abuse of Blackburn Rovers FC striker Benni McCarthy."
Mijailovic has until Monday to appeal against the decision.
