Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes accepts that his side's hopes of European football next season rest on the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea next weekend.
Rovers' hopes of a UEFA Cup spot via a league finish were all but ended by a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Aston Villa and Hughes is now focused on the Old Trafford showdown with the Blues.
He said: "If we are honest, I think it will be very difficult and unrealistic to think we can do it through our league position.
"We could still go on from this point and win every game, but I would suggest that's not likely to happen.
"Our performance level wasn't anywhere near where it needed to be.
"I'm not going to lay the performance at the feet of the semi-final, but I think we needed to be on the front foot and we weren't.
"We need to get this one out of the way, it is a disappointment obviously and is probably the end of our European hopes from our league position, but we've got another opportunity next week, so it is everything to play for."
