Savage makes McCarthy plea
17 May 2007 - 13:59:36
Robbie Savage has urged Blackburn Rovers team-mate Benni McCarthy to remain at Ewood Park amid speculation that the club's top-scorer could be lured away in the summer.
Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with possible moves to land Rovers' 24-goal top-scorer following his impressive debut season in the Premiership.
McCarthy has hinted he could be tempted to leave Ewood Park should one of the leading clubs make an offer, but Savage is hoping the former FC Porto marksman stays at Blackburn.
"Benni's a great lad and he's been brilliant for us this season," he told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"I really hope he realises this is a club that's going places. The grass isn't always greener elsewhere.
"We can break into the top-six next season if we keep this squad together and make a few additions over the summer.
"We've got a great manager, great coaching staff and some terrific players, so it bugs me when people see this club as a stepping stone."
