Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage may be fit to return before the end of the season after a positive scan result on his broken right leg.
The 32-year-old Wales international has been sidelined since late January and had been expected to sit out the rest of the campaign.
However, Rovers boss Mark Hughes told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "Robbie's had a good scan and he's ahead of where everyone thought he would be.
"He's got a little bit of irritation from where the pins are, but that's the only thing that's stopping him now.
"They are due to come out in two weeks and from that point onwards, he'll be running, so he's a lot closer than we thought he would be.
"He'll need another two or three weeks after that to get himself match-fit again.
"But if he comes back before the end of the season then he'll have done remarkably well."
Meanwhile, centre-half Andy Todd has undergone minor surgery to clear up a nagging knee problem.
"Andy went in for an operation as he needed a clear out in his knee," Hughes added.
"The problem has been sorted and there shouldn't be any complications."
