Santa Cruz plans to end record
21 Feb 2009 - 11:47:38
Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz is confident that he is the man to end Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar's amazing clean sheet record.
The Dutchman has not conceded a goal in the Premier League for 1,302 minutes but Santa Cruz hopes to finish that stunning run when Rovers take on United.
The unsettled Paraguay international said: "I think that every scorer is thinking of scoring. Edwin is a great keeper and a great person as well.
"Everyone likes him but a few would like to score and for me personally it is a very good chance to get back to that road and get going with the goals.
"I think I just needed a goal. In every single game I have played this season I have had a chance to score and somehow I have not been as good as I was last season.
"I think the most important thing is I score goals to help the team, that is the main thing.
"This is a game we can have a good challenge and show people why Blackburn won't go down and why we are really looking forward, not only to get safe but maybe to get into the top half.
"Those are the nicest games when you are playing such great teams. When you can show what you are about. I think sometimes these games are like a bonus because people don't really expect you to win.
"On the other hand if we can get those points they give you a real boost and I think that it is a game where we should be thinking of winning. It is the only result that can help us."
