Santa Cruz happy with Rovers
06 Feb 2009 - 12:47:13
Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz had vowed to give his all to try and help the club avoid relegation from the Premier League in the coming months.
The 27-year-old Paraguay international was the subject of several bids from Manchester City during the January transfer window, but has remained at Ewood Park with Rovers unable to find a suitable replacement.
Santa Cruz, who featured in the FA Cup fourth round replay win at Sunderland, told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "I am very happy at the club and that is something I have said every time.
"At the beginning I did hear some people showing that they disagreed, but I think people are very jealous about things they like, so I think it showed how much they appreciate me.
"Even though I didn't like it at that point, I could understand why people weren't happy.
"But it was also nice to see how people realised what it was about and they tried to make it better again, singing my name again after the first seconds I was on the pitch.
"Even when I was playing in games before the window closed, I was working as hard as I always do and always showing that I was focused on what the team was doing.
"For me nothing changed within that time and especially now.
"We have to focus on what we have ahead of us to start getting some points to see ourselves better in the table."
