Samba concern for Allardyce
19 Jan 2009 - 11:26:31
Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has revealed he is concerned by an eye injury sustained by Christopher Samba at the weekend.
Both Rovers' centre-halves - Samba and Ryan Nelsen - received blows to the head during the 3-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.
But while Nelsen returned to action after receiving stitches at half-time, Samba had to be substituted in the first half.
"I thought it was a bit nasty, the elbow," Allardyce told the club's official website. "It was an elbow from young Andy Carroll which was I think a bit naughty.
"Chris can't see through his right eye, it looks like he's gone 15 rounds with Ricky Hatton at the moment.
"I just hope that the eye socket is intact because it looked a nasty injury that one.
"Ryan Nelsen had about four stitches in his other eye this time, so he looks like he's done a few rounds as well.
"But our defenders stood up well again and that is very important - they gave us the platform to win the game."
